Malcolm Gladwell, author of The Tipping Point, followed this success with Blink, about the choices that we make in the blink of an eye without the time for thinking. How some people can make good choices and some make egregious errors.
This painting is called Blink and it is a particular favourite of mine. I painted it at the time that I was reading this book and it was certainly top of mind as I worked.
At that time, I was a partner in the RedEye Gallery in the historic Distillery District in Toronto. I had made several of my favourite pieces into giclee prints and this was one of them. I wrote to Malcolm Gladwell by email, including an image of the print and asking him if he would like a copy. To my delight he said YES.
By way of coincidence, I saw a client shortly after that who was attending a conference in Toronto where Malcolm was the keynote speaker. I told her the story of the print and she asked if she could deliver it in person to him during the conference. I emailed Malcolm to tell him that a tall gorgeous blond was going to hand deliver the print.
In true serendipitous form, Malcolm Gladwell walked off the elevator straight toward my client as she entered the doors of the Royal York Hotel. It was a delight to her and I am so curious about his reaction. I love this story. I wonder if the print ever got hung or if the story teller has ever told this tale.
